A Forgotten Truth: My Role in the Birth of Al Jazeera
Dear Sir,
For years, I have sought recognition. For years, I have reached out in good faith, hoping to reclaim what was taken—my work, my vision, my sacrifice.
Al Jazeera, now a global media giant, did not emerge from a void. It was built on foundations laid through tireless effort, creativity, and investment—the very blood and ink of those who envisioned a bold Arab voice on the world stage.
I was among those visionaries. The Arab American Television project, my work, my ideas—these were presented in Paris, examined by the very minds who would later shape Al Jazeera, under the mediation of Terry and Wahid Boctor. The prince himself saw the sample. He knew the origins. Yet, when the name was chosen, when the network took flight, I was cast into darkness—denied, unacknowledged, erased.
Now, I call upon you, not in anger, but in justice—to set things right. Recognize the truth. Compensate me for my rightful share in the foundation of this institution. Acknowledge my contributions, or let the American law determine our course.
History does not forget. Neither do I.
Sincerely, Richard BENAZZOUZ (AKA Rahal Jaouhari)
