Shadows in the Dark

Shadow in the Dark. By Richard Azzouz. I dedicate this poem to the Palestinian people. I have nothing to offer but my song. Mine, which I own, inherited the heavy weight of a head in the clouds. Since I don't remember when? My head is cloudy, and my heart pains me. Since a long time ago. All that I know is this song, since I forgot exactly when in a clouded memory by a catastrophic tragedy called Noukba of 48 when they killed the olive trees, burning and blasted my home, my village massacring the elderly like shooting fish in a barrel, poisoning the water. And since when? I have had these unsettling feelings or maybe a melody that I call my song. I still remember, the pain well. Blistered feet walking on hard rocks to no apparent set destination, exhausting exodus, walking for life from one camp to another, refugee song of limbo without knowing when to leave, or to where? All I know is we were chased, or kicked out what difference it makes from our home by European settlers. By the Haggana's terror bandits seetlers. Today the same Zionists call us terrorists. If we object, they come back with the victim card of the non-Semitic, "Antisemitic." Accusation Since then, I remember walking forever to no place in particular, I kept walking without respite from the cruel monsters running me out from camp to camp. The United Nations named me a Palestinian refugee. That is my song, and I remember it well from a repetitive sad memory, this heartbreaking nightmare a melody of a cursed world, of suffering and pain in the refuge, an invisible, unknown realm in the depth of our shared feelings in a song of millions suffering the same heavy faith and destined hearts navigating a dangerously stormy dark sea in the plains, without a port to rest longing for home's door, and a place to call my own Oh Palestine my family and home. By Richard Azzouz Haouari. 2/8/25. Florida.
Autor's note. Courage is an instinct! Unfortunately, most lack it due to the "Epi-Genetic Influence." Look it up, cowards!
